Sunday Worship FAQs
Thank you for your interest in University Presbyterian Church. The first Sundays of Feb-Mar-Apr-May 2016 UPC’s regular Christian Ed classes and worship service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 113 Hargrove Rd, Tuscaloosa 35401. Our two congregations are currently in conversation regarding the possibility of a merger. The question we hold before us is this: could we be better/stronger together than separate? The only way we can discern this, is to continue to get to know each other by worshiping together, learning together, serving together and breaking bread together.
Visitors’ perspectives are welcomed as we explore the possibilities before us, so please do not hesitate to join us for worship at either location!
If you come to worship with us the First Sunday of the month, please join us at Covenant Presbyterian. Worship for all other Sundays of the month and all non-Sunday activities will continue at University Presbyterian Church.
Where are you located?
At the corner of 8th St. and 12th Ave., next to Bryant Denny Stadium. Parking is available on the street, and the lots adjacent to the church.
What should I wear?
Dress is generally very casual, so come as you are! You will see a variety of styles at UPC.
What will I experience in worship?
We belong to the Presbyterian Church, USA, and follow what may be described as a traditional order of worship. We use a printed worship bulletin and sing from hymnals, but within that framework, you will find creativity and variety in our worship. We are a singing congregation, and are led in our music by a talented choir.
What do you provide for children during worship?
We offer a wonderful nursery for infants, toddlers and preschoolers so that parents may worship with peace of mind. Children are always welcome in the sanctuary as well, and we provide quiet activities to help them participate in the worshiping community.
We observe communion each week, share our prayer concerns with one another, and warmly greet one another during the passing of the peace. In these ways, and many more, we seek to be an intentional community of believers, practicing our faith in our interactions with one another, in our worship, and in our engagement with the community and the world.
Please email Rev. Cathy C. Hoop or call (205) 758-5422 if you would like to know more about the life, worship and work of UPC.
